The cabinet is taking measures to speed up the flow of status holders from the COA shelter to municipalities. This should lead to more space in the asylum reception and prevents this inadvertently becoming a permanent stay.

Minister Faber (asylum and migration): ‘Asylum reception is not intended for status holders. Those who are allowed to stay in the Netherlands must from an AZC and contribute to society as quickly as possible: working, integration and being self -reliant. This is possible, for example, in flow locations. In addition, by limiting the asylum inflow, we structurally solve the problem of overcrowded care. ‘

Currently, nearly 17,500 status holders occupied places in the asylum shelter. Those places are intended for asylum seekers, which overflowing the reception. To relieve this pressure, it is important that status holders move on to municipalities. At the same time, the pressure on the housing market is also great. That is why the government is taking measures in the short and long term.

Reimbursements

Municipalities receive a one -off amount if a status holder is included. In addition, municipalities receive reimbursement for the costs incurred when realizing a transfer location. With this, the government meets the points that have emerged in the evaluation of the earlier pilot flow locations.

Alternative housing solutions

In the long term, the government will investigate alternative living solutions, such as (un) independent homes for status holders and refugees from Ukraine. The starting point is that this housing is intended for different target groups, so that there is no extra pressure on the social rental housing stock. In addition, status holders are expected to contribute financially to their accommodation.
