Prinsenbeek will soon lock the access roads to the village for through traffic during the morning and evening rush hour. It is a trial from the municipality of Breda to tackle the traffic. If you don’t have to be in the village, you can’t get in either.

A traffic investigation shows that about half of all the traffic driving through the village does not have to be there. And that must be over, the municipality believes. In the coming six months, the municipality will test whether so -called pointed closures of multiple access roads will change that.

The approach to the traffic must ensure that more homes can be built. New houses logically ensure more traffic of residents and the village cannot have that now.

Shortcut
Prinsenbeek is located on the A16 motorway, between the Zonzeel and Princeville junctions. If the traffic is fixed somewhere around those roads, then motorists often opt for a ride through the village. Also traffic between Zevenbergen/Etten-Leur and Breda sees the village as an easy or shorter route than taking the highway.

The roads are not physically closed during rush hour. Cameras at the access roads will register the license plates of passers -by. Residents of Prinsenbeek will receive an exemption to just keep their village in and out. Whether sneak traffic is immediately fined is not yet known. The municipality must work out the plan even further.

Housing
The rush -hour closures are expected to be introduced in the second quarter of this year. If they turn out to work, the cameras remain. The municipality also wants to see how the accessibility of Prinsenbeek can also be improved by bicycle and public transport.
