Thea Louise Stjernesund was missing a hundredth of a second for a World Cup medal in the giant slalom. The disappointment with the Norwegian was huge.
Thea Louise Stjernesund was missing on gold in the giant slalom of the Ski World Cup 2.63 seconds, and almost two seconds on silver. Nevertheless, a medal has long been tangible for the Norwegian. In the end, however, she went away empty-handed, a hundredth of a second behind had Stjernesund to the American Paula Moltzan, who ultimately won bronze in Saalbach (Austria).
The shock of the unfortunate fourth sat deep. “It will not be easy to sleep today,” she said after the race at the Norwegian TV broadcaster NRK. Stjernesund broke out in tears, her parents mourned. “It was painful,” her father said at NRK. “It was so sad that only a hundredth of a second was missing,” added her mother, adding: “But I’m very proud of her, she did it great.”
The Norwegian ex-ski racer and TV expert Kjetil Jansrud also suffered with Stjernesund. “A damn hundredth,” he said. The ski racer has the last chance of a World Cup medal on Saturday when the women’s slalom is due.
