Theater De Schalm in Veldhoven tries to prevent party celebrities from taking confetti during carnival with a special slogan. “You can throw confetti outside, here in the scalm you can whistle,” is the slogan. The theater still suffers from the chips confetti that stick under the theater seats and are in the concert bin. Yet carnival lovers in Rommelgat, as Veldhoven is called with carnival, do not understand the confetti ban. “Confetti belongs to carnival.”
“How is it possible that something beautiful as Confetti will be banned with carnival at the official parties in the beautiful junk hole,” party four -four Twan van de Moosdijk wonders.
Bas Heesterbeek, event and facility manager at Theater de Schalm, initially, initially that thought. Yet he came up with the slogan, which now causes indignant reactions with carnival lovers.
“In the summer we still come across confetti.”
“Towards the end of Carnival, every year we have to brush,” he says. “We don’t mind that at all, because we also shoot confetti ourselves. But we still come across confetti everywhere in the summer.”
To prevent that, the theater tried to intervene for a long time. The grandstand with theater chairs was retracted, so that the stage became a large empty dance floor. And the concert bin was put down.
Yet it remained a mess in junk hole. “The Confetti kept sticking under the seats and in the concert bin. For these technical reasons, we wanted to let party goers know in a funny way that we would rather not have it anymore,” says Bas.
“Confetti belongs to carnival.”
After the announcement of the slogan, the theater received indignant reactions from partygoers. “Many people think that confetti belongs to carnival. I must honestly say that I thought that before,” he laughs.
Twan is such a carnival celebration that Confetti simply belongs to belonging. “You are a theater and you organize something with carnival. Then you can expect confetti right? I still don’t quite agree with the ban.”
Manager Bas hopes that people will be obedient on their own. In any case, searching at the door does not do the theater.
“And people don’t have to be afraid that they will be put out if they have some confetti with them. In that case we ask people if they take a handful of confetti home.”
Feestvierder Twan still wants to cooperate with that. “I will take home a hand full of confetti,” he laughs.
