Mikaela Shiffrin celebrated a gold medal early at the Ski World Cup in Saalbach. But the American only partially prevails.
Mikaela Shiffrin gave deep insights into her soul life after her World Cup gold in Saalbach. In an interview with “Eurosport” expert Viktoria Rebensburg, the US star revealed that she continues to fight with mental challenges after her serious injury.
“It was a brilliant and unexpected day,” said Shiffrin. Despite the success, she does not yet feel mentally ready to build on her earlier services. “I have problems when we train under racing conditions. At the end of the training I cry and don’t even know why. These are just mental blows.”
The reason for her mental burden is also the difficult time after an unusual injury that she suffered from the World Cup in Killington at the end of November. The injuries forced it to a two -month break. “It was a strange injury,” said Shiffrin. “At first nobody could assess the heavy one, nor we couldn’t. The first three weeks I couldn’t sit straight because my abdominal muscle did not work on the side. I first had to learn to go normally again.”
The pain was the worst that she had ever felt. “Because of this strange stab injury, it was difficult to understand what had happened at all,” said the American. The way back to the ski circus was therefore particularly long and challenging.
Despite the setbacks, she now managed the gold medal in the team combination – but Shiffrin makes no secret of the fact that she still needs time to find her old strength back.
