Again a fire broke out on Wednesday evening at the De Brug campsite in Herpen. It is already the fifth time that a chalet was on fire at the campsite on Sint Sebastianusstraat.
Last week it was also hit, then a chalet was destroyed by fire. Two other fires took place in the last four weeks, the first in April. In all cases, the police assume arson.
In the winter months the park was abandoned, only one resident lives permanently on the holiday park on the outskirts of Herpen. The rest are holiday homes that are mainly empty.
Images of last week’s fire:
Residents of the campsite break down their chalets, for fear of what is to come. Resident Piet van Ham (82) had already started the demolition of his chalet last week: “I am not waiting for something to happen to it.” He is very sorry that there are so many fires at the campsite and that he has to leave his beloved site.
The end of the campsite is near, the owner wants to close everything.
