On April 14 last year, around 9.10 am, the 21-year-old man then picked up his good friend from home to take her to work. When they just enter the highway with his car, he takes an unexpected turn after a few minutes.

He stops under a viaduct of the A1 in Muiden and puts on the woman with a screwdriver. Later, when she manages to flee out of the car, he hits her with a stone and tries to strangle her.

The woman runs back into the car and knows how to lock herself. There she calls the emergency services. Shortly thereafter the man is arrested, who had hidden themselves in the bushes next to the viaduct. He has been stuck since then.

In court

Today the now 22-year-old man from Amsterdam had to appear in court. He makes a tense, timid impression and was constantly shaking. “He is very nervous for today,” says his lawyer.

The suspect says he soon regrets what happened. “I have a lot of trouble with what I did to her. I can hardly look at myself in the mirror,” he explains in court.

But what exactly happened, he doesn’t remember. In fact, he can’t remember anything about that day in April last year. According to him, this is due to a soft drug addiction that he has been struggling with since he was 17. “I noticed that I was gradually becoming paranoid. I forgot things and had more and more tantrums.” According to psychological investigations, he might be in a psychosis wrong during the abuse.
