Mario Vuskovic must now bury the last hope after the four -year doping lock imposed on him. Like that “Hamburger Abendblatt” and the “Hamburger Morgenpost“Reporting, the passage before the Swiss Federal Supreme Court also remained unsuccessful. His complaint against the judgment of the International Sports Court CAS was rejected. The 23-year-old remains closed until November 2026.
The reason for the decision is not yet available, which will be delivered to the lawyers in the next few days. However, the judgment is final and cannot be challenged. The appeal procedure was only about possible procedural errors of the CAS anyway. Theoretically, Vuskovic could still move to the European Court of Human Rights, but the chances of success also go there for zero. In addition, a procedure could take a long time.
In the appeal process in August 2024, the CAS not only confirmed the lock against the defender, who was found guilty of taking the blood doping agent EPO. Rather, the highest sports judges had granted the appeal of the national anti-doping agency NADA and the World Anti-Doping Agency Wada and even increased the sentence to four years. Vuskovic himself and his then club Hamburger SV had expected an acquittal.
The HSV subsequently had to terminate the Croatian contract in order to meet the corporation’s obligation to provide financial assets and may not be punishable if the salary payment continuously. The red pants showed Vuskovic in the same train to a comeback. From 2026, the central defender will receive a very performance -related contract. In September, two months before he is entitled to play again, Vuskovic can return to team training.
At the end of August 2021, Vuskovic was initially switched to HSV on a loan from Hajduk Split and then committed. Together, the transfer package cost 4.2 million euros. Until his lock, he was on the pitch for the north German 47 times (three goals, two templates), last on November 9, 2022 at 0-1 in Fürth. Vuskovic denies the doping allegations. Last year he was initially closed by the DFB sports court for the taking of EPO on November 15, 2022 for two years.
