Back to 2016. It is February 14 and Rob’s mother is celebrating her birthday with a big party in Haarlem-Noord. Friends and family from all over the country come to the North Holland capital to celebrate that Rob’s mother turned 75 years old. Rob still makes plenty of Dutch -language music at that time. He was therefore asked to sing a birthday song for his mother.
Romantic moment
An excellent moment, Rob thinks. If he is on stage for a birthday number for his mother, he immediately has the attention of all those present. Rob takes his chance and asks his beloved to marry. “That was a romantic moment,” he looks back. In a specially written song he sings her, with the final sentence: “Do you want to marry me?”
“I had been walking around with the plan for a while to ask her to marry him,” says Rob. Valentine’s Day seemed like an excellent moment for the big question. “Also because there were many friends and family together on that day.”
Live on the radio at June
Presenter June Hoogcarspel makes a special Valentine’s broadcast for NH Radio on that Sunday and, together with the radio reporter who is present at the party, is in the conspiracy. The proposal can be heard live at that time on the NH channel.
In September 2016, the couple married, on a Tuesday morning, in the Kleine wedding room of the town hall in Haarlem. On Friday of the same week, Rob and Judith give a big party for friends, family and colleagues.
Now, nine years later, the couple is still married: “We are still very happy with each other.”
