The 35-year-old man from Emmen who was arrested after the deadly house fire in Valthermond is free again. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) reports this.

The man remains a suspect in the investigation, the OM emphasizes. “The suspicion is that he was involved in triggering an explosion,” says a spokesperson. According to the examining magistrate (that is a judge who supervises an investigation) it is not necessary that the man will stay stuck for longer.

A 34-year-old man from Valthermond died in the fire in a house on the Zuiderdiep last Monday. Several explosions were also heard during the fire. Probably it was created by fireworks that lay in the house. The suspect Emmenaar was slightly injured.

The Explosives Clearance Service Defense first did research in the house to see if it was safe enough. For example, an employee entered a special bompak. After the fire and explosions, four homes were also evacuated. Residents could not return home for a few days.
