Eklat in the Süper Lig: In the early Sunday evening, the game of the undefeated league leader Galatasaray was canceled against the bottom of Adana Demirspor in Istansbul. The guests had left the field as a result of a penalty whistle for the lions in the twelfth minute. Gala newcomer had transformed the penalty Álvaro Morata-but the origin was questionable.
Before the penalty, the Adana captain Semih Güler, born in Castrop-Rauxel, had supposedly brought down Gala attacker Dries Mertens. Referee Oguzhan Cakir immediately decided on penalty that Morata used to lead. However, it was clearly seen on the TV pictures that Mertens threaded at Güler and that it was a wrong decision.
In the 34th minute, the bottom of the table left the field, whereupon the game was canceled after a short interruption. “This is great damage to Turkish football. I don’t think what happened here was wise and I’m sorry. There are always efforts to make Turkish football look bad. I respect this decision, but I’m sad about it. The Adana Demirspor supporter is a very large and important one for Turkish football, ”said Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk.
The club justified the decision that “systematic, conscious referee errors and injustices” against Adana Demirspor had been made, the state news agency “Anadolu” reported. According to Turkish media reports, the team initially wanted to continue playing, but President Murat Sancak is said to have made the decision to leave the field. It is likely that the game at the green table will be rated 3-0 for Galatasaray, which thus consolidates the lead.
