The mixed team competition is currently balm for German ski jumps: As a week ago at the home World Cup in Willingen, the DSV quartet jumped onto the podium. This time it was even enough to win. This was mainly due to Selina Freitag and in the end to Andreas Wellinger.

Agnes Reisch, Selina Freitag, Philipp Raimund and Andreas Wellinger cheered on the victory on Sunday (09.02.2025) and prevailed against the favorite Norwegians and Austria.

A few hours after the desolate appearance in the individual – Wellinger was the 16th best DSV eagle – the German ski jumps were able to laugh again. The lightness with which the German women in Lake Placid were “walking” to height flights was apparently contagious. Friday, who triumphed with two top jumps and brought her team back on gold course, protruded from the German team. Wellinger was the last jumper to make everything clear with his first lightning -clean jump.

Reisch puts Germany in the lead

Service starter Reisch, who had jumped onto the podium for the first time in the World Cup a few minutes earlier, opened the competition for Germany, flew to 119 meters and thus directly to the pole position off Norway and Austria.

Inspired by this high flight, Raimund added 121 meters and at least distanced Norway. Jan Hörl from the Austria team stayed on the German with a jump to 123 meters, but he could not overtake. Raimund’s secret trick was called distraction. “I opened my laptop and gambled.laughed Raimund at the Sportschau interview.

Friday is expanding a lead – Wellinger loses

Selina did not have to play on Friday. The jumps of the Saxon in the two individually – Friday finished third and fourth – went well. And Friday also shone in Mixed: At 124 meters, the 23-year-old jumped the largest vastness and expanded the lead before Norway and Austria to a good eight meters.

Andreas Wellinger was a little weaker at 119 meters, but defended the lead. Norway Johann Andre Forfang (122 meters) and the Austrian four-hill touring winner Daniel Tschofenig (123.5 m) shortened the deficit.

Finale: Reisch and Raimund shorter

The lead continued because Reisch showed her weakest jump of the weekend in the crucial round. With 115.5 meters, Germany remained in the lead, the plan to expand the lead, but went wrong. Norway came up to 2.1 points, Austria lurked in third place. The Slovenes were already behind with 78.3 points.

So the podium was certain when Raimund turned to his second jump. The 24-year-old flew to 120.5 meters and lost the lead. Hörl (126.5 meters) and Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal (124.5 m) passed.

Friday and happiness bring Germany back

Was gold story? No! Friday also performed on her second jump and put Norway and Austria under pressure with 126.5 meters. Norway spoke up before the jump from Eirin Maria Kvandal and shortened the attempt. Kvandal should have jumped 121.5 meters, but set up at 120 meters. Even worse caught Jacqueline Seifriedsberger, who had no chance with a lot of tailwind and only jumped 113.5 meters. Austria fell from the first to third place – 16.3 points behind Germany. Norway was 5.4 points behind the Germans before the last jump.

It was due to Wellinger to bring the victory “home”. And the German final jumper delivered. 124.5 meters despite reducing the start were strong and in the end meant the clear victory because Tschofenig and forfang jumped significantly shorter with 121.5 meters each.

Another one on Sunday

While the World Cup in Lake Placid is over for women, the men still have a chance to end the misery in individual jumping on Sunday (3:50 p.m. in the Sportschau-Livestream). Until Trondheim is needed a little miracle to get out of the valley. The mixed competition could have been a first step.
