Anyone who lives in the municipality of Waterland and is looking for a joint must currently go to Purmerend or Amsterdam, or make an appointment with a dealer. But according to councilor Gerard Meij there are all kinds of risks, and moreover the municipality cannot supervise it. That is what he wants to change with the special coffee shop.
There must be strict supervision of the shop itself, in schools in the municipality, prevention must be actively done, and most importantly: the proceeds must be issued to local associations and foundations. In this way the nuisance has to get close to zero, and the shop must deliver the environment somewhat.
“It may be a bit contradictory, but with the proceeds from the coffee shop we also want to focus on prevention, to ensure that young people in particular do not grab more drugs. And by investing the other proceeds locally, it really delivers something to the residents On, “explains Meij.
