The Magdeburgers had just set a record in German professional football. According to the databases, they won the last three away games 5: 2 – three times in episode five away hits. But the leading away table by far also has this incredible home complex – the team is the last of the second division.

Open at the back, faulty at the front

Why this is so was clearly seen against Nuremberg in the first round. Briefly summarized: At the front, you take the clearest chances and afford an error festival in the back. Club interior defender Ondřej Karafiát used this in the 5th minute after a cross from Julian Justvan over a head over FCM keeper Dominik Reimann.

In the 27th minute, Marcus Mathisen managed to equalize with a wonderful free kick, but the joy kept briefly: with double the clubberers the clubberers went through a penalty from Robin Knoche (30th, Daniel Heber had fouled Rafael Lubach) and an own goal of Jean Hugonet (33rd) in the lead.

Permanent pressure is rewarded twice

Magdeburg fought against the next home disappointment in the second round with flying colors. Nuremberg initially came up with the greater chances because the FCM almost inevitably exposed cover.

But after Stefanos Tzimas in particular failed several times from a promising position, Christian Titz’s team was rewarded for their continuous pressure on the offensive: top scorer Martijn Kaars met with his 15th goal of the season per Schlenzer to the connection (72nd), and six minutes later Hugonet used a rebound after Marcus Mathisen had previously stuck with his shot on Danilo Soares.

Tzimas forgives – but Justvan puts the lid on it

As a result, both teams continued to play fully on victory, the game was a festival for the spectators of both teams. After a wild excursion from Magdeburg Keeper Reimann, Tzimas had the 4: 3 on his foot ten minutes before the end, but shot past the empty goal. Justvan then did better in the 5th minute of stoppage time and still hit the victory for the Nuremberg.
