They are disappointed in Lommel, just across the border at Valkenswaard, of all tank tourism. With a price difference of sometimes 40 cents per liter, it is worth refueling for many people from Brabant. This causes nuisance and dangerous traffic situations. For example, there are regular traffic jams and the cycle path is also full of motorists.
The Belgian councilor Katrien De Ruysscher from Lommel wants the police to maintain stricter. Recently there is also a light sign for the gas station that warns that standing still on the street or cycle path can yield a fine of 116 euros.
Matter of time
According to the councilor, it is a matter of time until a serious accident occurs. “You can drive here 70 kilometers per hour. If you drive on an unexpected traffic jam with that speed, the havoc cannot be foreseen.”
The councilor is also concerned about safety at the gas station. “Often the trunk often opens here to fill 5 more jerry cans with gasoline. You shouldn’t think about it if that flies due to an accident.”

20 euros
The nuisance is especially on weekends. The congestion also blocks access to an adjacent company. All license plates are yellow. Henk Waterschoot from Bergeijk, which is a few kilometers away, recognizes the nuisance. “It’s really dangerous now and then.”
If it is too busy, Henk just drives on to the next gas station. “But there it is also busy and dangerous,” he knows. Motorist Raöni also tries to refuel for the crowds in the morning. “It saves 20 euros per refueling.”
