The municipality of Borger-Odoorn wants to open a new temporary reception location for Ukrainian refugees in Odoorn. The plan is to make 30 rooms available in Hotel de Oringer Marke on Hoofdstraat. This must be done from 1 April before one year at the latest, according to a letter that local residents have received.

The municipality is in conversation with the owner of the hotel to rent part of the building for care. The hotel is renovated and modernized during this period. Then it will function again as a hotel. The bowling alley remains open to visitors during this period.

At the moment Ukrainian refugees are staying in the Oringer Stee, a branch of Hotel de Oringer Marke that is opposite, but that location will close by 31 March by March 31. Then the building gets its old function again, as a hotel.

Local residents can come to an information meeting at the end of February. Here the municipality explains the plans and there is room to ask questions or share worries. After the information meeting, a decision is made by the college.

The owner of the hotel was not available for comment. The municipality of Borger-Odoorn was unable to respond today.
