Miguel Ángel Soláone of the best Argentine performers of his generation, represents the ninth generation of actors from a family of long connection with the theater. His mother was the outstanding artist Paquita Vehil, her father was head of the Maipo ticket office. When he had not yet turned two years old, he debuted in “The garbage car”, along with Narciso Ibáñez Minta and Luisa Vehil, his legendary aunt. He was followed by “Ana de los Milagros”, of which he recalls: “My aunt tortured me. I shouted desperately: ‘More Miguel, more’. He told me so that I could, through the voice, transmit the pain and feelings of the character, ”recalls his second theatrical work. In his youth he did not have much interest in the profession, but decided to appear at the casting of “The Night of the Cruel Mice.” He was chosen and his life gave an important turn to start working continuity.

Throughout his prolific artistic career he conducted outstanding and remembered works in theater, film, television, radio and music. Impossible to consign them all in these lines. In the scene, it was the stable waiter that blinds the horses in “Equus” and John Merrick, a person with malformations on his face and body, in “The elephant man.” On the big screen, the murderer and former policeman of “Murder in the Senate of the Nation” and Dr. Salvador Mazza of “Casas de Fuego”. On TV, he stood out in “Dare”, in the chapter “Ladies and Knights”, advanced to his time, in which he personified a woman locked in the body of a man. The music is not alien to the music, because it was part of “The typical in slight ascent”, a multimedia group with which he recorded an album and built the room “The alley of desires”, in abasto.

Based for several years in Spain, he returned to Buenos Aires for the premiere of “My dear president”the work, produced by Gustavo Yankelevich, in which he personifies the unique therapist who must attend to an elected head of state. In the intimacy of his dressing room, warm, in a slow voice, he spoke with news.

News: What is theater for?

Miguel Ángel Solá: It is something that comes from caverns. Someone had to tell the people inside, who outside was life. This man came who had been in hunt and that suddenly he had seen the dimensions of a mammoth. Tell what the smell of fear was like. In addition, without vocabulary (gestures and emits onomatopoeia). He had to reflect the other life, death, hope, tell how a spirit of the body was going. That is why I feel that the only important thing is to pass the facts of reality through imagination. The only way to transmit something from a stage is to pass the sieve of reality through intelligence. If that does not happen, it is simply naturalism.

News: The performance was not the first option in his life

Alone: I didn’t want to know anything. I took it as a normal fact for my family, but the theater has taken my mother for many hours. Then he wanted to shine to the theater (he smiles). But there was the other, when they came back and with my sister Monica, we expected awake. Café with milk came with the croissants bought dad. Sometimes the family talk was boring because we didn’t understand anything, but sometimes, a news came that was like being in the cave, around the bonfire. It was wonderful.

News: Did you ever have fear or anxiety in a premiere?

Alone: No not at all. I was never afraid. I will never be afraid in my house that is the theater.

News: What did “Equus” mean in his career, along with Duilio Marzio?

Alone: Duilio was a wonderful co -worker, beautiful, magnificent person, generous. A good human being, a gentleman. We work very well together. There was an era where he was not having a good time with his health because he had stomach problems. Poor, when he left the stage, between scenes, he vomited and then continued with the performance as if he had nothing. From him I learned a lot.

News: Also from Cecilio Madanes, the director?

Alone: I didn’t have a very good relationship with him because it was (think the words) I don’t know. Imagine, I was a wild foal, an animal, with a very powerful physique and an attraction capacity that realized what generated outside the stage. I know what the viewer needs, I know where they are looking, where the attention is going. It was not an original setting, but a replacement. Rights were sold and the setting had to be respected. The structure was already done and nothing could be generated. Maybe that influenced the relationship with Cecilio. I threw myself, I went beyond all the time and changed the words because they are born, they do not dominate. The translation was very beautifully literally, but taking it to the actor’s body is something else.

News: Despite success there were inconveniences …

Alone: Well, we started in the Athenaeum and we were happy. But suddenly, for success, we went to El Nacional where a number of functions that were torture had to be done. A theater of nine hundred people and without a microphone, all the time to the screams. I started having a bad time because I hurt me every two for three and there was always Romay. He was a very (extensive pause) bah, who rests.

News: Did he have two judgments with him?

Alone: And I won both. I had things of evil to fart, really. With all how well I was going, they did not form and did a second parallel company with other actors to get it on tour and there I planted, I said no. News: Did they suffer an attack in La Plata?

Alone: A bomb.

News: Why was it? Did anyone awarded it?

Alone: I don’t know the reasons someone can have to put a bomb in my dressing room. He called Romay indicating that they lift the function by bomb threat. They exploded in the explosive truck. That was in ’76, very difficult times.

News: In ’99, before going to Spain, he received death threats against his daughter. Did they know where they came from?

Alone: Let’s see, bitch children do not need excuses. They do what they do and do not have to. There is no justification for threats. They are pigs. Everything comes back and then they will end up bursting from the same thing they generate.

News: How do you watch current television?

Alone: It is why. I don’t have what I want to see on television. I do not conform to me or I am saying: “Ah, but this was good, poor, he was born in a villa and look at what arrived, now he is a rapper.” I can’t, I have other expectations in life. I believe in merit and capacity. I think one does not own talent, but bearer. That is why a huge respect owes you. I believe in people good milk, then everything else is the least.

News: Any suggestion for young people interested in their profession?

Alone: No, I feel the old Bizcacha (smiles). What I lived are not going to live it. They will not have people who take care of them, who want to see them create. People who manage, take care of them, want them, impulse them. They will have it perhaps in their homes. A dad or a mother or a brother who is going to give him this breath and flight. What I lived is a wonderful era with the creation of the channels, the black and white ax, the arrival of color. What exists now are anus against nature of the actor’s profession. It is very shame. News: Has the rod of excellence fallen?

Alone: I still believe in that. That is why the theater people who come to see what I am doing, remember my works. Who remembers a job as rare as this that is ephemeral? News: Did they ever call him from San Martín or Cervantes?

Alone: Kive Staiff, wanted Hamlet to do. I like to read my Shakespeare, but not do it. I proposed to make “Galileo Galilei” by Bertolt Brecht, but did not materialize.

News: Where does Willpower get moving forward?

Alone: I have poor iron health (sic). I would like to rest, but I have to keep working. I like to work and I have to accept what they offer. I can’t give me the pleasure of saying no. Except for “my dear president”, I have done things that I would never have done in my life five years. I hadn’t even taken the job of thinking about them. There comes a time when you have to accept tiny and things in cinema and television because if not, you do not eat. You have to survive and still have hope.

News: Did you think of writing your memoirs or leaving testimony of your work?

Alone: No (categorical). I write poetry, songs, about the things I see from life, but my thing is to be a theater actor who also makes movies, television and radio because I like the sound of the voice.

News: How do you see the current situation in the country?

Alone: Give me three more months and I answer the question.
