After winter transfer
Breaks for ex-BVB star: He must not play Champions League

In winter, Donyell Malen left Borussia Dortmund towards Aston Villa. Already now he has to put the first setback away.
He had imagined it very differently: at Borussia Dortmund, Donyell Malen had increasingly looked up on his outside position and was used less and less. As a result, the Dutch international decided to change the club.
From BVB, painting was drawn to Aston Villa for a transfer fee of around 25 million euros. As soon as they arrive there, he has to cope with a setback. Because at least in the Champions League, painting will not be able to appear for his new club for the time being.
The club did not report the 26-year-old for his royal class squad. The rules only allow the clubs to make three changes in their squads after the winter transfer phase. Since the club also signed Marco Asensio Marcus Rashford, Andres Garcia and Axel Disasi in addition to painting, it was clear that two newcomers could not be roughened for the Champions League.
Now it is clear that this fate caught painting alongside Garcia. The Champions League season is over for him. “Of course it is not a good decision that I had to make yesterday,” explained coach Unai Emery, “but I spoke to Andres and Donyell to tell you the decision and I justified my decision to you.”
After the departures from Jhona Duran, the team had to replace three departures to Fenerbahçe Istanbul for Fenerbahçe Istanbul. “We made more changes in the transfer window than we actually wanted,” said Emery.
Particularly annoying for painting: If BVB survive the intermediate round in the Champions League against Sporting Lisbon, there could be a direct duel between villa and the black and yellow in the round of 16. Malens reunion with the ex-club fails either way.
