The football players of VfL Wolfsburg meet the defending champion FC Barcelona in the quarter -finals of the Champions League.
The Spaniards had triumphed in the premier class in the past two years. The German champions from FC Bayern Munich also received a heavy opponent at the draw in record winner Olympique Lyon. The team from France won all of his six group games and crowned the Champions League winner eight times.
German duel only possible in the final
The two German teams could meet in the final on May 24th in the Portuguese capital Lisbon at the earliest. The other two quarter -final games are Real Madrid – FC Arsenal and Manchester City – Chelsea.
Quarter final games in March
Since both Bavaria and Wolfsburg went into the draw as a group second, they deny the first leg at home. The duels of the remaining eight teams are held between March 18 and 27.
The move -in of both teams into the quarter -finals is a success for German football. Last season the Lower Saxony failed before the group phase, FC Bayern did not make the leap into the KO phase.
