The German basketball players received their second defeat in the penultimate qualification game for the European Championship.
As in the first leg, Italy was too strong for the DBB selection. The team of national coach Lisa Thomaidis lost to the hosts on Thursday (06.02.2025) in Faneza with 60:79 (38:38). As a result, Italy also pushed himself past Germany in the table and is now the leader.
The best thrower was Nyara Sabally with 15 points. The center had to fit in the final quarter due to shoulder problems.
Weak third quarter
In the first two quarters it was a balanced game. None of the teams could settle. After the break, Germany seemed inhibited against energetic hosts and repeatedly failed at the end.
Italy used this phase of weakness and hurried to 60:44. The DBB selection only reaches six points in the third quarter.
Germany already qualified
In the final quarter, Germany tried to shorten the gap. But this was no longer decisive, even if the throws fell more into the basket again.
Germany was already qualified as hosts of an EM preliminary round in June 2025 in Hamburg. At the end of the qualification, the DBB team will play against Greece on Sunday (4:00 p.m.) in Athens.
