The animal ambulance in Zoetermeer, The Hague and the surrounding area saved a lot of animals last year. Not only dogs and cats, but also birds, hedgehogs and even snakes have been picked up. “Each of those animals has a story,” says Linette Eveleens, spokesperson for the animal ambulance.

In 2024, the Dierenhospitaal and Ambulance Service and Ambulance Service and the Hague answered no fewer than 45,000 phone calls and broke out 14,000 times with the ambulances! The latter happened not only in Zoetermeer, but also in Rijswijk, The Hague and Pijnacker-Nootdorp.

Thousands of animals saved

The Dierenambulance Foundation keeps track of all the journeys and so they know exactly how many animals they have saved. In 2024, among other things, 3400 water birds were transported, 5000 other wild birds, 1900 cats, 700 tame birds, 390 hedgehogs, 430 dogs and 6 snakes. “One time it was a simple save from a bird that had flown against a window and sometimes it was a spectacular saving in which the fire brigade had to come and help,” said Linette.
