State Secretary Zolt Szabó (Digitization and Kingdom Relations) wants to retain the function of Rijksmeurer, but to set up differently. This adjustment is included in the bill to amend the Public Bodies Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba (Wolbes) and the Finance Public Bodies Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba (Finbes) Act. The bill must contribute to good governance and financial reliability.

Zolt Szabó: “Inter -administrative supervision, where and when necessary, requires intensive administrative involvement. This can be designed more effectively and more appropriate by the government representative than by a minister in The Hague. The government representative is much better able to quickly be on location and knows the special circumstances of the Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba administration. ”

Content function Rijksi Reporting Changes
The government’s position remains, but the content of this position will change on a number of points. The government representative will be more concerned with promoting and guaranteeing good governance and keeping inter -administrative supervision.

Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba have also indicated that they strive for their own permanent representation in The Hague. As a result, the coordinating role of the government representative, as a representative of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba, is not or less necessary. The Executive Councils have already been informed about the changes in the bill.

Time schedule bill
The bill will be adjusted accordingly in the coming weeks. In the second quarter of 2025 a new internet consultation will take place about the adjustments in the bill. This means that the bill will probably be sent to the Lower House in the first quarter of 2026.
The adjusted planning has consequences for another change from the bill, namely the increase in the number of island council members. With the new planning, it is expected that this amendment to the law will not go in front of the island council elections of March 2027. As a result, the increase in the number of island council members will only be able to start by 2031.
