Former meteorologist Kerttu Kotakorpi37, shares their ideas to their followers about YLE’s situation. Yle recently announced that its change negotiations had ended.
Kotakorpi ponders in his Instagram publication at Yle. Kotakorpi says that most of his years have gone through the weather reports, in the news studio and “workstation at work on the weather.”
– Today I will have 13 years of common history with YLE. There have been quite a few changes, especially lately. Sad situation at the moment, and I have no certainty about the future. Cheers to all colleagues, Kotakorpi writes.
– A couple of years ago, the weather steering center changed to one laptop and the workstation to the adjacent house. I got to do Kerttu and Markku – Looking for Hope series. It was great to be able to use my own expertise on climate issues and to get to know solutions around Finland and a little in the world. I’m so grateful for this and proud of the series, he continues.
Kotakorpi says he will focus fully on nature programs, especially on the radio, but also online.
– This spring, at least forests and birds are known, he concludes his writing.

Kotakorpi became known as a meteorologist for its television weather forecasts. In August 2024, Kotakorpi announced that he would leave his work as a meteorologist and move to YLE’s nature delivery.
At the end of its amendment negotiations, Yle announced that its number of employees will be reduced by 309 and the redundancy will be 156. In November 2024, YLE launched a change negotiations, which covered 1,798 employees in the employment relationship indefinitely. In the context of the change negotiations, it was reported that the negotiations could lead to dismissal of up to 375 people.
Solutions in the conversion negotiations generate cost savings of approximately EUR 27 million. In total, the savings required by the Parliamentary Working Group will mean adaptation of 66 million between 2025 and 2027. The matter is progressing in stages.
