Carlos Sainz has a new chapter in Formula 1. After his farewell to Ferrari, the Spaniard drives for Williams. The veteran now explained that there was a rethink in his decision -making process.
After Ferrari announced the collaboration with Lewis Hamilton from 2025 at the beginning of last year, Carlos Sainz had to look around for a new cockpit in Formula 1. The choice ultimately fell on Williams.
“Maybe I already mentioned it in some interviews, but for me the essentials were not so short-term,” revealed the 30-year-old on his first visit to Williams in Grove, which the racing team released in a video.
Sainz revealed: “At the beginning, when I had to make such an important decision, I very much focused on which team will be faster in 2025, who will generate more downforce, who finds out things that will make them faster.”
Finally, however, it became clear to him that “my decision had to be based on two things: the project and the people,” said Sainz about his election in favor of Williams.

The conversations with team boss James Vowles would also have reinforced him.
He became aware that “he set up a very strong project here in Williams. He formed a team with a vision, with a project, together with Dorilton [Teameigentümer, Anm.d.Red.]of which I believe that this team will bring it back to the top, “continued Sainz.
The Spanish veteran runs to the traditional team at the side of Alex Albon. Williams landed in Formula 1 2024 on the ninth of ten places in the design classification.
“I remember that when I left McLaren, I really thought that there were really good people there and that the team could become world champions in the future,” Sainz looked back on the end of the 2020 season when he was then too Ferrari pulled. “McLaren became world champion last year and I said to myself: ‘Okay, I have to trust my instinct’,” he argued about his signature at Williams.
Sainz reveals: “I know that Williams has a good project that they have the support and that they have good people. In the end, this combination of two things made me really believe in Williams and come to you.”
