It promises to be a busy carnival for CV De Wèggooiers. Last year the Oosterhoutse Carnival Club won the competition you choose Kraker with their hit ‘Still un likkie!’. Since then they have many bookings and they are even at large festivals. “Where we had a few shows with carnival last year, we now have a very full agenda,” says Wèggooier Loek van Gastel.
Last year during 3 hours of Vurraf, CV De Wèggooiers managed to win the well -known carnival artists such as Veul Gère and Lamme Frans. The club from Oosterhout had already recorded two songs before, but with ‘Still Un Likkie’ their success gained momentum.
“Last year it cost our money and now we earn something from it,” says Loek van Gastel, one of the twelve members of the club. He used to keep up with the bookings, but that became too much after last year. “We are now at a booking office. We have had many requests, so it was useful to have someone who supports us in this.”
“You all come to places where you normally don’t come.”
And those bookings are not alone with carnival. “Last summer we performed at festivals, such as Outdoor Waailand with 10,000 people audience and Oosterhout live where there is something of 6,000 people. They are quite stages that you suddenly stand among all Dutch artists. And you all come up with Places where you normally don’t go so that is a very cool experience. “
The Wèggooiers have now fine -tuned their show and they have made a new squatter. The new song is called ‘Op Zun Kop!’ And is about cyclists in eleventh gear. “There is not really a nice song about cycling yet, so this came out.”
Waiting for privacy settings …
For the coming carnival, the counter is currently at sixteen performances, six of which are planned for Saturday. “We have arranged a bus for that day. Then you can still perform carnival with a drink on the bus. That is much nicer than a boring taxi bus, so we have a good time.”
Sometimes the carnival club sometimes has to say ‘no’ something. “We have had requests from above Utrecht. Yes, but of course we will not go there with carnival. It must remain fun and I think that was successful for the coming year.”
