56-year-old Hans H. from Schoonebeek has to appear in public for the first time for murder of his ex-partner today. The woman was stabbed to death on October 29 near a childcare in Hardenberg.
Because the incident happened in Overijssel, the case is dealt with before the court in Zwolle. Today is an introductory session and it is mainly about the suspect’s custody. When the substantive treatment is is not yet known. H. is accused of killing the mother of his children with several knife stabs.
The 53-year-old Tonnie was met by H. at the Kameleon childcare, where she worked. Several parents and children would have unintentionally witnessed the drama. H. could not accept that Tonnie wanted to end the relationship.
H. tried to flee after the murder, but that didn’t work. He would have injured himself with the knife. The two from Schoonebeek had been in the picture with the police for a long time, a spokesperson for the municipality of Emmen confirmed earlier.
Mayor Eric van Oosterhout reported that last year he was informed in May that H. would have tried to set fire to Tonnie’s house. H. would have been given a house ban in October that was still on the moment of the stabbing.
Mayor Maarten Offinga van Hardenberg spoke of a drama that had happened that day at childcare. According to the municipality, the children have always been safe. “They were inside and did not see the incident.”
