Sad news for tennis fans: Simona Halep hangs the racket on the nail. The Romanian would still be closed until March.
The former tennis world list list Simona Halep explained her end of career. The 33-year-old announced her decision after the 1: 6, 1: 6 against the Italian Lucia Bronzetti in the first round of her home tournament in Cluj. Halep won the French Open 2018, Wimbledon 2019 and earned prize money of over $ 40 million.
In October 2022, Halep was temporarily suspended due to a positive doping test. After irregularities in the blood pass, it was closed in September 2023 to October 2026. However, the International Sports Court CAS shortened the lock to nine months, from March 2024 Halep was entitled to play again.
“I am a very realistic person. I know what work you have to do. My brain and my body no longer allow it. I am professionally fulfilled that the decision was easy for me,” said Halep. The Romanian has to deal with knee problems, among other things.
