The partial exclusion of guest fans around the Lower Saxony endby in the first half of the season was a much discussed topic. A decision has now also been made for the BTSV guest game in Hanover.

The guest appearance of Eintracht Braunschweig near Lower Saxony Rival Hannover 96 in March will also take place under reduced guest support. The Hanover Police Directorate ordered this by decision to the hosts on Monday, according to a press release from the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior and Sport.

Minister Daniela Behrens (SPD) supports this decision. “The partial exclusion of the guest fans has been coordinated with me,” she is quoted in the press release. “The arrangement is correct and appropriate, given the experience with the past Lower Saxony derbies between the Eintracht Braunschweig and Hannover 96.”

She now assumes that host Hannover takes appropriate measures to ensure security in the stadium. How exactly this will be transferred to practice remains to be seen. For Behrens, this means the ban on fan utensils in the guest block.

As last October, the game of the two Lower Saxony clubs will now take place in front of fewer guest fans. The quota is reduced by 40 percent. As a result, a maximum of 2,500 BTSV supporters may be there. In the first leg, the ultra groups of both fan scenes were removed from the stadium in protest against the decision. Behrens emphasized that Hannover, like Eintracht, did not present a sufficient security concept. “In particular, the use of pyrotechnics, partly as a weapon, cannot be sufficiently prevented by the proposed security concept,” she says.

Behrens accounts for deficits, particularly in the area of the folders used and the associated defective personal controls. There, especially with a view to smuggling pyrotechnics, “significantly change”, said the minister.

She expresses understanding for any disappointment with the fan groups involved. But: “This is the only way we create the prerequisites that all spectators can experience the game peacefully in the stadium,” explains Behrens. “I hope that on the match day there will be a worth seeing sporty competition in an atmospheric atmosphere and that we do not have to observe new excesses of violence.”

It is not yet clear when the game will take place. The exact start is announced promptly. The derby is planned for the weekend from March 7th to 9th.
