Next deep strike for the German ski jumper: had recently proven Karl Geiger rising form, the DSV eagles jumped in the collective this time. The victory went to Austria again.
It seemed as if the world’s largest ski jump in the world was not only taking the breath of the German ski jumpers this Saturday (01.02.2025), but also self-confidence. At the home world cup in Willingen of all people, the DSV eagles in front of 23,500 spectators performed badly than for a long time – and at the same time continued their form crisis three weeks before the World Cup.
Hoffmann best German – Tschofenig wins
Only Andreas Wellinger, Pius Paschke and Felix Hoffmann had made it into the second round. They were all far from a top placement. Hoffmann, who only collected World Cup points for the second time this season, became the best German in 15th place. Wellinger and Paschke ended the competition in places 17 and 27.
“At the moment it is already a bit tough, we actually lost today“, said national coach Stefan Horngacher in the sports show. For the tenth time in a row, his protégés remained in a single competition without a podium.”Our goal was to shorten the distance a bit. We absolutely not succeeded.“
The DSV eagles of the world leaders had already jumped after the past few weeks, this time it became even clearer how big the difference is – especially compared to tour winner Daniel Tschofenig, who won his sixth win of the season in Willingen. The Austrian prevailed with jumps to 135.5 and 142 meters (288.9 points) in front of the Slovenian Anze Lanisek (284.9 points). Third with Maximilian Ortner (275.9) was another Austrian.
Herber setback for Geiger
Eight DSV jumpers had qualified for the competition, only three of them made the leap into the second round. Above all, that of Von Geiger came as a surprise. After the 31-year-old was something like the only bright spot, he had to cut the sail in Willingen, where he was able to win his second of a total of 15 individuals six years ago, after a weak attempt and was only 44 ..
“That was a very nice board“, Geiger quarreled,”I didn’t get caught here at all and just jumped badly. The past two weeks have been quite positive. Then it went in the right direction. But there is also no need to get to the sceam.“
After 126.5 meters at half -time rank 20, Paschke, who was very bad luck with the conditions, after 123.5 meters in 21st place. While Hoffmann in the second round with strong 137 meters (and only) only that day for this day for German jubilation and could make ten places in the final bill, Paschke fell back in the ranking after 122 meters. Wellinger increased a little at 133 meters.
Eisenbichler and Leyhe do not take chance
Markus Eisenbichler and Stephan Leyhe were once again able to prove themselves in the World Cup – however, this failed thoroughly. Eisenbichler had made it into the competition as the penultimate in the qualification in the first time and noise, after 123.5 meters he also let his head hang there.
“Of course this is not horny when you’re jumping as bad as I just jump“, Eisenbichler found clear words.”There is a matter of course, trust.“Even Leyhe was unable to advertise on his home hill, 125.5 meters were not enough for the second round. The last hopes for participation in the World Cup are also disappearing for the two veterans.
Raimund and Schmid divorce
Philipp Raimund also landed on the hard ground of the facts after the podium in the team the day before, 128 meters meant the early. Constantin Schmid was allowed to open the competition, but 124 meters should not be enough for the second round. “It was a good feeling, but could have turned out better“, Schmid struggled,”But compared to last week I took a step forward.“
The German Ski Association (DSV) is represented with an XXL contingent in Willingen. A total of ten German athletes are there, Luca Roth (107.5 meters) missed the move into the competition, Adrian Tittel was disqualified due to a suit that was too great – the fully failed day.
