The 1. FC Magdeburg is increasingly crystallized than a candidate for promotion in the second division. In the Schalke Arena, the Elbestädter showed their playful class on Saturday evening at 5: 2 (2-0) victory in a spectacular match. Outstanding man in the arena: Martijn Kaars, who scored four goals for Magdeburg.
Unrly for five competitive games – Schalke had gone into the match against 1. FC Magdeburg as a “team of the hour” of the second division. However, the FCM is considered one of the most playful teams in the league and is particularly dangerous away. A victory at Schalke – and the team of coach Christian Titz would jump to second place – this is the starting point.
The fans hoped for a game worth seeing – and they could see that too. Magdeburg presented himself dominant in the initial phase. The guests had a lot of possession of the ball and initially tried it mainly over the left side. There you have an enormously dangerous left foot with Mo El Hankouri, which also tried the same against Schalke. The best chance arose after a cross from him, which was only too high in the 17th minute – center forward Martijn Kaars came up with his head, but could no longer press the ball properly.
Kaars by double pack – Magdeburg dominates in the first section
Schalke aggressively registered in the 21st minute. Tobias Mohr had the ball on the right foot 23 meters in front of the goal, but narrowly grimaced when he finished. Overall, however, Magdeburg was the better team in the first phase of the game. And that soon became reflected in the result. In the 29th minute, Kaars was sent steeply by Livan Burcu into the penalty area. From an acute angle, the Dutch circled the ball of Justin Heekeren in the Schalke box for 0: 1 into the net.
Magdeburg stayed tuned, awarded Alexander Nollenberger a good opportunity after 41 minutes to cheer the 0: 2 before the break: Schalke’s defense could be surprised in a Magdeburg free kick in midfield. Kaars had free rail and pushed the ball into 0.2 online (45.+2).
Magdeburg has everything under control
Schalke applied: After the change of sides, a quick goal was needed to have a real chance of points. But nothing came of it. The FCM continued to determine the game. It was playful for the second division, which the team offered from the Elbe. In the 56th minute the 0: 3: Baris Atik was released on the left with a relocation of the first quality. The 30-year-old ran a few steps, flanked precisely into the course of Kaars, who had little trouble to mark his third goal that evening.
It was now bitter for Schalke. The royal blue were shown their limits from the more confident guests. In the 66th minute a magic goal: Burcu played a wonderful pass from half -right, where Philipp Hercher introduced and the ball only gave a small change of direction to sink it next to the right post in the goal – 0: 4
Schalke does not give up, but collects the KO
It was a great football game, in which Schalke also kept his share. Because royal blue was not on. And was rewarded: Adrian Gantenbein reduced in the 69th minute to 1: 4 when he pressed a flank from Pape BA over the line. Two minutes later, Magdeburg’s Hercher had to clarify with his head on his own goal line after BA set a header.
The final KO came a little later, by – of course – Martijn Kaars. After a long pass, the Dutch flipped keeper Heekeren and pushed the ball into the empty gate (74.). In added time, the result of the result: Janik Bachmann reduced to 2: 5 after the flank of Taylan Bulut. It remained. Schalke was stopped after his little row of success. And the 1. FC Magdeburg was happy about his leap to second place in the table.
