The police hurled more than 160 road users on Thursday. This happened in the Markiezaten district (Bergen op Zoom and the surrounding area) and the province of Zeeland. The majority of the offenders, 129 pieces, had a telephone in hand while driving and this is forbidden. The fine for this costs between 300 and 400 euros.

In seventeen cases it was driven too fast. The driver’s license was taken from a driver who went too fast 92 kilometers per hour. Two other road users also had to hand in their driver’s license, why is unknown.

Because of his/her driving behavior, one director can expect an invitation for a course from the Central Driving Skills Bureau.

Mono-action
It was a so-called mono action. Here, traffic from a moving coach is monitored. This time a camera was also used along the A58 motorway. 36 motorists were caught calling, by telephone in hand, while driving.

The drivers who were spotted from the bus were stopped and have received a ticket. The Mono promotion was supported by colleagues from the police teams in Bergen op Zoom, Roosendaal and the Zeeland region of Oosterscheldebekken.

Furthermore, fines have been issued for:

  • Driving on the emergency lane (2)
  • Sharp excellent parts of the vehicle (1)
  • crossed extended line (1)
  • driving over the point piece, a marking place that you are not allowed to pass over (1), just like with drizzling surfaces
  • License plate not easy to read (1)
  • Ignore red light (1)

Last October it was announced that the ‘Gluurbus’ of the police and the province entails an avalanche of fines. In the first ten months of 2024, in traffic violations on motorways in our province, nearly 700,000 euros in fines were already issued for calling or apping behind the wheel.
