For many years he was significantly involved in the success of German handball. Now Bob Hanning is taking on a new task. The step comes unexpectedly.

Former DHB Vice President Bob Hanning becomes the new coach of the Italian national handball team. The managing director of Füchse Berlin follows Riccardo Trillini, who trained the Italians for almost eight years. “It was and is always a pleasure to develop something great. Everyone knows that and that has been the case in all of my functions in recent years. Now I stand full of joy and in parallel to my task in Germany New adventure Italy, “said Hanning in a message from the Foxes Berlin.

At the German runner -up, Hanning is currently working as a managing director and will remain. The 56-year-old is to be officially presented in Oslo this evening. The final weekend of the handball World Cup takes place in Norway’s capital.

The Italian selection is predicted great potential. At their first World Cup participation in 28 years, the “Azzurri” were among the surprise teams of the tournament and celebrated victories against Tunisia, Algeria and the Czech Republic. In the main round, the team around Bundesliga professional Domenico Ebner lost to the German ranks.

“The team was here for the first time in over 20 years at a World Cup. Now it is about qualifying for every European and World Cup. That will be the task,” announced Hanning.

Cooperation between Hanning and the Italian association began a few months ago. “And the first results are visible, especially by the integration of some of our athletes into significant international teams. This is a crucial step,” said President Stefano Podini. The foxes had already announced the commitment of the Italian service provider Leo Prantner the day before.

As early as the previous year, Hanning described it as attractive to look after a national team that was not one of the big ones in the world. The 56-year-old has not yet worked as a national coach, but has plenty of trainer experience. Most recently, the sports official had led VfL Potsdam from the 3rd league to the upper house. He already coached HSV Hamburg over 20 years ago.
