In the end it was not enough for the playoffs in the Champions League. VfB Stuttgart is out.
VfB Stuttgart has left the Champions League without a sound after a hearty 1: 4 defeat against Paris St. Germain. Ex-BVB star Ousmane Dembélé (17./35./54.) With a triple pack made for an early decision, for Paris Bradley Barcola (6th). Willian Pacho scored the goal for VfB with an own goal (77th).
In the goal of VfB, the decision against Nübel and for representative Fabian Bredlow, who is unlikely to keep his debut in the premier class, was unlikely to be remembered, just before the kick -off. Before the game, a lot had also been discussed whether Stuttgart and PSG could agree on a draw. One point would have been enough for both. A non -aggression pact?
The team of coach Luis Enrique had no interest from the start. The guests implemented the Spaniard’s specification that had said: “I’m not here to speculate. We want to try to win, we want to improve our position.”
After just six minutes, the guests benefited from a serious playback error by VfB captain Atakan Karazor, who unchecked the ball into the goal. Then Barcola was somewhat happy on the long post, but worth seeing by Désiré Doué and scored for the lead.
The Stuttgarters were increasingly unsettling after the early deficit. Sometimes a pass failed, sometimes the hosts made unusual stick errors. Leaders had the chance to equalize twice. But both in the 13th and the 16th minute, the international missed the quick answer because Gianluigi Donnarumma reacted strongly.
The Parisians played their pace on the other side. In the second goal, Barcola shone with an assist for Dembélé. The video referee had collected a supposed offside position after a few minutes of waiting.
The unrest in the ranks increased noticeably because the results in the other places only helped VfB for a short time. Coach Sebastian Hoeneß made an excited impression. In his coaching zone he walked up and down, in the field the offensive players Enzo Millot and Deniz Undav stimulated their heads together. But the Stuttgart did not find solutions.
Paris continued to take control of the action and gave VfB a lesson, especially in the first half. The third PSG goal from Dembélé was preceded by another big chance that defused Bredlow. After the change of sides, the VfB supporters, who never stopped supporting their support, tried to shake their team. But thanks to Dembélé, the favorite cheered again.
The home side now had a little more possession of the ball, but radiated little danger for a long time. At first, leadership managed to overcome Donnarumma with PSG with help. More than the honor goal, however, no longer jumped out for VfB.
