Borussia Dortmund has found what they were looking for in a new coach. An old acquaintance returns to the Bundesliga.

BVB has officially announced Niko Kovač’s obligation as head coach. Managing Director Lars Ricken had already confirmed a fundamental agreement on Wednesday evening, now the personnel is fixed. Kovač receives a contract until summer 2026 and brings his brother Robert and Filip Tapalović as an assistant coach.

“All those responsible for the BVB made us feel very good in the conversations, so I am convinced that we can achieve a lot together in the future,” said Kovač in the press release and made it clear what his goal is: “First first Line for us is now concerned with bringing the absolute will, a big heart and willingness to work for hard work in order to represent Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, the Champions League and in summer at the club World Cup. “

In the meantime, BVB had the plan to get a short -term solution until summer. Kovač was considered a favorite. The fact that he now even receives a contract until 2026 shows that the executive floor is convinced of the former DFB Cup winner (with Frankfurt and Bavaria) and champions (with Bavaria). Managing Director Ricken explained: “Energy, will and a sense of the meaning of the team idea have always been awarded Niko’s teams. We also want to feel and see all of this on the lawn and apart from the lawn.”

BVB is only in eleventh place in the Bundesliga. In the Champions League, the club narrowly missed the direct round of 16. In the DFB Cup, it ended early. Because of these disappointing results, ex-coach Nuri Şahin ended a week ago.

In the game on Saturday against Heidenheim in the Bundesliga, interim coach Mike Tullberg will be on the sidelines one last time. Then Kovač takes over.
