A man was arrested tonight at the McDonalds in Assen. This happened after the restaurant was evacuated for about two hours. The suspect fled to the roof of the fast food restaurant when the police wanted to arrest him.

Earlier in the evening, the surroundings of the McDonalds near Assen-Noord was closed and the restaurant evacuated. According to an McDonalds employee, there were still around fifteen people present when the police entered the building. “Police suddenly came in. Then it was said that there was a man on the roof and we were all led outside.”

That is why the police had come to Assen with many different units. The special interventions service was also present. “Since the man was at height, this required a special bet,” says a police spokesperson. The suspect had no weapon with him.

Bystanders saw a negotiator at the McDonalds. There were also police dogs and a helicopter flew. RTV Drenthe reporter Mirthe Zuhorn saw that around half past nine a person was put in a police van.

The incident at the McDonalds attracted a lot of attention. Many people came to the fast food restaurant to see what was going on.
