Meryl Streep is apparently prudent in times of crisis. The nephew of the actress, ABE Streep, reported in an article for that “New York Magazine”that Streep had to make extreme efforts during the fires in Los Angeles to save himself.

In the detailed article, ABE describes how the fires and evacuations developed and endangered people all over the city, but above all in Pacific Palisades and Altadena. He confirms that Streep had to leave her house after evacuation instructions had been sent to more than 200,000 inhabitants.

“My Aunt Meryl Streep received an evacuation order on January 8, but when she tried to go, she found that a large tree had fallen in her entrance and blocked her only outcome,” he wrote. “Determined to make it, she borrowed a wire shear from a neighbor, a car hole cut into the fence that she shared with the neighbors on the other side, and drove through her garden to escape.

Elsewhere in the article, ABE announced that the actor Martin Short, Stepeps film partner in “Only Murders in the Building” and her friend, also had to leave his house in Pacific Palisades. Short looked the flames from his balcony and left the house after one of his sons who lived nearby had asked him to walk. The traffic jam and the actor needed “more than an hour to cover a distance that would normally take five minutes”.

Short’s house did not burn down, but one of his son’s houses was lost. Short said to ABE: “I will definitely stay in my house.”

Haley Joel Osment lost the house and 500 records

ABE also spoke to Haley Joel Osment, who lost his house in Altadena (as well as his parents). “Osment lost 500 records and a piano that his parents had given him when he became 18,” wrote ABE. “He told me that his father had to struggle with the loss of his house because he has spent a decade to sand the wooden floors and paint them again carefully.”

He added that Osment hoped to clarify the events. “I don’t want to accuse anyone or anything, but I just want to know if there was a decision to simply give up the whole neighborhood if all of this is examined,” said Osment in the article. The actor announced ABE that he plans to rebuild in the same place.

In addition to the known names, ABE spoke to numerous residents of both districts about their experiences. In the fires that broke out in early January, more than 10,000 houses were destroyed. Many people have campaigned for help, including the music scene, which organizes several benefit concerts for the victims of the fires. On January 30th, Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Jelly Roll, Stevie Nicks and Sting for Fireaid appear in the intuit Dome in Los Angeles.
