Shortly before the biathlon world championship 2025 in Switzerland, Elvira Öberg is slowed down due to illness. The Swedish ski hunter is slowly frustrated about this fact.
Elvira Öberg was missing from the past biathlon World Cup in Antholz in Italy. The 25-year-old lost important points in the race around the large crystal ball. In the overall classification with 571 points, the Swede currently ranks behind Franziska Preuß (879) and the French Lou JeanMonnot (787).
Her failure was “really sad, because I worked on it and thought I had a good chance. I also had a stable shape, so although I had a few points back, I had the feeling that the chance was there” Öberg said to the Swedish broadcaster “SVT” about the setback in the overall World Cup.
It was “not a nice week”, said the incumbent relay Olympic champion. “You just have to accept the situation, but yesterday I felt that I was slowly fed up, that I have been sick too long and that it slowly affects my shape. It was an up and down,” said Öberg.
Biathlon World Cup 2025 begins on February 12th
For the Scandinavian, it is now about getting in shape on time until the biathlon World Cup in Lenzerheide (February 12th to 23rd). “I will not be able to make the usual preparations. First of all, I want to be healthy,” Öberg looked ahead.
Sweden’s national coach Johannes Lukas recently revealed to the newspaper “Expressen” that an alternative plan for Öberg has long since come into force. Because: training in height is currently out of the question.
Accordingly, Öberg remain around two weeks to get back to its old form. The Swedish ski hunter has already won a silver and two bronze medals at World Championships in the past.
