There are no 168 refugees on a Panhuijzen Groen site on the Langstraat in Deurne. The entrepreneur has withdrawn. On Monday evening, residents were still running away from a meeting about the possible arrival of refugees, because mayor Greet Buter could not guarantee that the shelter would be temporary.

The entrepreneur of GroenSonderhoudsbedrijf Panhuijzen Groen has decided not to make his site on the Langstraat available for the reception of 168 refugees. According to the municipality, the entrepreneur, his family and his employees experience a lot of pressure from the environment.

Protesting local residents
The possible arrival of the shelter recently caused unrest among residents of the Walsberg district.
Around fifty local residents left prematurely at an information meeting on Monday evening. At that time, local residents protested against the plan.

It is unclear whether a different location is being searched for by the municipality of Deurne. The refugees are now staying in Heeze-Leende and can stay there until 1 April.

Multi -year asylum shelter
Local residents left the information meeting because they received no guarantee from the mayor that the shelter would be temporary.

In a letter from the municipality, residents had read that the owner was also in discussions with the COA (Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers) about multi -year asylum shelter on his site. They were also dissatisfied with the way they were informed about the shelter.

Several parties have also asked council questions about the issue within Deurnese politics.
