In the World Cup game against Tunisia, DHB captain Johannes Golla already celebrated its 100th international. It became an unusual anniversary.

Happy smiling, freshly styled and with a cake gift in hand, Johannes Golla built up in front of the microphones of the journalists. After the clear 31:19 win of the German national handball team for the World Cup round round against Tunisia, the DHB captain could have been in a good mood anyway.

But it was also a very special evening for Golla: At just 27 years old, Golla was able to look forward to his 100th international anniversary against the Tunisians. “It’s already an unreal number,” said Golla. “It went really quickly,” continued the circular runner. He revealed his previous national team career with assistant coach Erik Wudtke, who already looked after him with the juniors, he revealed. “You remember every single one, but 100 is already a blatant number.”

Golla was able to enjoy the anniversary relaxed – because he was able to watch the game completely from the bank. The other long -running favorite got a break from national coach Alfred Gislason in the sporting meaningless game. The DHB team had already qualified for the quarter-finals prematurely with the victory in the second preliminary round game against Italy.

An anniversary on the bench. For Golla it was bitterly sweet: “The body was very happy and I think the boys did it well,” he said about the break. “Nevertheless, one would have liked to be on the field for a minute in the 100th international,” he limited it in laughing. “But everything is fine. At the time in the tournament, the break is worth more than just running on the field.”

At the age of 27, Golla is one of the more experienced players in the overall very young DHB squad. However, he is not yet in an upscale age. How many caps can still follow? “It’s hard to say. As long as I feel good, I will stay with it,” said the jubilee. “A hundred sounds good now. There are not so many who have done it, and now I’m concentrating on the next tasks.”
