The downward slide that has been going on for around two years for winger Antony at Manchester United, who once cost 95 million euros, is coming to an end for the time being. The 24-year-old Brazilian will spend the rest of the season on loan in Spain with Real Betis Sevilla, both clubs announced. A purchase option is reportedly not part of the transfer.
The second most expensive player in the history of the Red Devils has never lived up to his fee since transferring from Ajax at the end of August 2022. It reached its highest market value shortly after the move at a then cautious 75 million euros – since then it has fallen steeply to currently 20 million euros. Only compatriot Neymar has experienced a greater decline in market value in the past two years. For the now 32-year-old, who was injured almost continuously during the period, the amount fell by 60 million to 15 million euros.
In 96 games for Man United, Antony scored twelve goals and five assists. In September and October 2023 he was released due to allegations of abuse by his ex-girlfriend and two other women. In the current season, the 16-time national player was only on the field for 407 minutes in 14 games, scoring one goal in the EFL Cup against third division club FC Barnsley (7-0).
