In an earlier plan, the Mayor and Aldermen’s Municipal Executive wanted to enter paid in phases throughout Amstelveen until 2030. She is afraid that motorists would otherwise simply park their car in another – free – neighborhood, causing the nuisance to move.
Petition signed more than 6000 times
Amstelveners have recently resisted by submitting objections and starting petitions. A petition started by a member of the action group has been signed more than 6000 times. Traffic alterant Raat announced yesterday in a press release to listen to the criticism: “We only enter paid parking in neighborhoods such as Westwijk, Middenhoven and Waardhuizen when there is parking nuisance and the criteria set is met,” he promises.
The ‘Free Parking’ action group – consisting of five people – finds the new plan a nose nose. According to them, the municipality pretends to be listening to her citizens in this way. “But this is not participation. They did not talk to us about alternatives that are for paid parking,” Hennie van den Berg tells NH.
‘Serious participation’
One of the alternatives that the municipality should consider according to them is a blue zone. If strange parkers have to remove their car after a maximum of two hours, they cannot leave it in the neighborhood for a whole day.
The group wonders what has actually changed in the plan. The college keeps the option to eventually introduce paid parking everywhere. In the new plan, the situation in each neighborhood is evaluated twice a year to see whether paid parking should be entered in more neighborhoods.
“We want serious participation to take place first before an irreversible course is used by a proposal to the council. It is essential that the voice of the residents is heard and that a transparent and reliable process is followed. Only by working together on A supported solution can come to a policy that does justice to the various interests of our community. “
Paid parking easier to introduce
The group is also bothered by the proposal to introduce paid parking in the Oude Dorp areas, Keizer Karelpark West and Kostverlorenhof Oost is not off the track. In those neighborhoods, the parking pressure is not too high everywhere, they suspect.
In addition, they find it suspicious that the municipality makes the introduction of paid parking in busy places in the new version of the plan easier. “What the municipality is doing now is speeding up the process and they even leave a test balloon on paid parking during the weekend and the evening.”
Two weeks ago, the action group organized a well -attended meeting for delivered Amstelveners to help them resist legally. She wants to continue with that. “We call on residents to continue to draw the petition and, above all, to continue to submit objections.”
The new proposal will be dealt with by the city council in February and a decision must be made in March.
