The fact that you find red cycle paths worldwide is thanks to Tilburg. The very first red cycle path was constructed here. Piet Romme (92) explains how that came about and that it didn’t matter much whether cycle paths were yellow. Fifty years ago he was one of the founders of the Tilburg cycle path. This was partly due to a very sad reason: even the son of the Minister of Transport died in a bicycle accident.
