The Yölintu band went on hiatus in August, when the soloist Simo Silmun47, the bite was corrected last November with a major operation. Now Silmu tells the news In Seura magazine from his surgery, the cause of which is decades-long sleep apnea and problems in the mouth area.

Five years ago, the singer received a positive pressure breathing device that can be used at night, and a year after that he started using sleep apnea braces. However, it was difficult to use the aids on gig trips. In the fall of 2023, Simo Silmu heard from a doctor about orthodontic treatment and bite surgery, and took these options.

He was operated on at Pori Centennial Hospital in an hour-long operation, where his lower jaw was detached from its place behind the back teeth and moved forward.

– The doctor said, for example, that my singing voice will remain unchanged. Singing should actually be even easier than before, because there will be more space in my throat in the future, Silmu tells Seura.

The Yölintu band recently announced their situation on Instagram. The band said they will continue gigging in January. The band’s first performance after the break is in Ylihärmä on January 24.

Silmu has performed in the band for about 30 years. He told Iltalehte in November 2023 that despite the routine, performing alone is exciting. The musician said that in the middle of the rush, he still manages to enjoy his free time.

– At home, I try to keep a situation where I can be happy without doing anything. I’m the kind of person who likes to do something all the time. It’s relaxing if there are no schedules and you can do at your own pace, Silmu describes.

In addition to Silmu, the Yölintu band includes a guitarist Jukka Harjuthe bassist Jari Monastery and the drummer Harri Lehtonen. The band’s most famous songs include, among others An accordion the size of a TV, Can I fit in the world? and I’m falling.
