FC Bayern had actually planned on a win in Rotterdam. But in the end the record champions didn’t have three points, but conceded three goals.

FC Bayern is at the top of the Bundesliga and only 15th in the Champions League. Direct entry into the round of 16 is unlikely, as the record champions would have to be among the top eight teams to do so. The fact that Bayern are only 15th is due to the 3-0 defeat at Feyenoord Rotterdam that the Munich team suffered on Wednesday. A surprisingly clear slap against the fourth-placed team in the Dutch league.

Bayern were correspondingly frustrated after the game. Captain Manuel Neuer spoke of “frustration and disappointment” in the dressing room. “Especially in the crucial moments today we didn’t have the determination. No matter whether on offense or defense. Feyenoord was simply more gallant,” said the goalkeeper on the DAZN microphone.

Coach Vincent Kompany agreed with Neuer and said the Dutch deserved a win. “We ran, we fought. But we already felt that they were dangerous in the moments. They played the moments very well,” said the coach, who is now likely to go through the second round with his team must.

Joshua Kimmich, however, was far more critical. At DAZN, the midfield strategist said: “We are definitely leaving too much behind. When I see how many great chances we had again, how much we invest for a chance, how much we leave behind and how easy we are currently making it for the opponent to score goals “That was very, very bad today.”

The 3-0 defeat in Rotterdam was FC Bayern’s third defeat in the current Champions League season. “As they say: the table doesn’t lie. We have to admit that we’re not a top team at the moment. A top team can’t lose the game here. We’re still missing a bit,” Kimmich made clear.

Bayern should be able to avoid another stumble in the Champions League. The opponent next Wednesday is Slovan Bratislava, the second-worst team of the current Champions League season with zero points after seven games and 6:24 goals.
