Prime Minister Schoof will attend the National Holocaust Remembrance Day in Amsterdam on Sunday, January 26, 2025. During the commemoration, the Prime Minister will give a speech and, together with State Secretary Karremans of Youth, Prevention and Sport, he will lay a wreath at the Mirror Monument ‘Never again Auschwitz’.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands and the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp. Since 2015, the date of liberation of Auschwitz, January 27, 1945, has been an international day of remembrance established by the UN: The Holocaust Memorial Day. Victims of the Holocaust and other genocides are commemorated around the world on that date. There are also gatherings around this day in the Netherlands, which conclude with the national commemoration.
The National Holocaust Remembrance takes place every year in the Wertheim Park in Amsterdam on the last Sunday in January. This year, in addition to Prime Minister Schoof, speakers include the chairman of the Dutch Auschwitz Committee, Jacques Grishaver and the mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema.
