The price of GTA VI has not been revealed yet. If it’s bigger than usual, other publishers might follow suit.

Today, the most expensive games are already priced at $70, but inflation has had a surprising effect on prices. Anu Kivistö

The highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI coming out this year from Rockstar Games might cost a lot. At the moment, the price of big games is at most 70 dollars, but the price of GTA VI has been hoped for up to 100 dollars.

One would imagine that GTA VI would be expected to have a cheeky price so that players would consider it overpriced and buy something else instead. However, this is not the case.

Among others, PC Gamer and Techspot reported on the assessment made by the analyst Matthew L. Ball in the text he published.

Ball’s paper is called “The State of Video Gaming in 2025” and it can be found from his website. It has been reported on, among other things Techspot and PC Gamer.

In his article, Ball laments that the relative price of games today is lower than ever before.

The prices of the games have of course increased in numbers. Thanks to inflation, however, the first Grand Theft Auto, which cost $50, in the 1990s relatively cost more than any other game in the series since.

– No other leisure product has experienced that its representatives become less valuable over the decades. This hurts all game developers regardless of budget and size, Ball writes.

However, Ball writes that GTA VI’s pricing may have an impact on other games as well. At $80-$100, the game would encourage other developers to raise their own prices.

For example, a game previously priced at $40 could cost $50 in the future. The prices of the most famous publications would be reduced from 70 to 80 dollars.

Ball’s writing has not been received in the gaming industry with only praise. For example, Larian Studios Michael Douse has indirectly mocked Ball in its X update.

– That’s not meant to be said out loud!!!! comes Douse’s concise update in Finnish.

PC Gamer also cites Douse’s second X update. In it, Douse admits that the problem described by Ball is real, but it is not the reason for the current predicament of the gaming industry.

On the other hand, Douse also expresses his doubts about the influence of GTA VI’s pricing, according to PC Gamer. Buyers might not be willing to pay more than $70 for other games.
