If you live in social housing in North Drenthe, you may have a chance to win an amount of 750 euros. This money is intended to help tenants, because maintenance on their homes has often been postponed due to the earthquake problems.
At first, only a few people could receive this compensation, but now the scheme applies to more areas. These are tenants who were already living in social housing on July 1, 2021. This could be a house owned by a housing association or a private landlord.
In Drenthe, this concerns residents of the municipalities of Aa and Hunze and Tynaarlo with the postal codes 9512, 9654, 9655, 9656, 9657, 9659 and 9474.
As a tenant in the earthquake area, this means that you can get money to do something about overdue maintenance. Many homes need repairs, but this was often postponed as landlords waited for plans to strengthen homes.
A first round of this compensation was carried out in 2022, but not all tenants took advantage of it at the time. With the expansion of the scheme, it is now also possible for them to apply for the compensation. This is possible from January 21 to December 31, 2025.
The scheme is intended to improve the immediate living conditions of tenants in the earthquake area. Deferred maintenance and uncertainty have led to a backlog in the repair and reinforcement of homes.
For full details and the application procedure, tenants can visit the website of the Northern Netherlands Partnership (SNN). Both tenants in Groningen and North Drenthe can check here whether they are eligible.
With this compensation, the government hopes to take a step in improving the quality of life in the earthquake area, also for social tenants who were often excluded from previous schemes.
