QOTSA: Josh Homme performed live again for the first time after surgery – for Mark Lanegan

Queens of the Stone Age had to cancel several concerts in 2024 because Josh Homme needed emergency surgery. New gig dates for 2025 have now been announced. Plus: Homme appeared on stage at the Mark Lanegan tribute evening. A good sign for his recovery?

“Carnival” live in the Josh Homme version

On December 5, 2024, the tribute evening “Mark Lanegan 60 – A Celebration” took place at the Roundhouse in London. The event was dedicated to the Screaming Trees singer, who died in 2022 and would have turned 60 on November 25, 2024. To commemorate him, a number of musicians got together to perform songs by Lanegan, who also worked with Queens of the Stone Age.

Josh Homme, for example, brought “Carnival” from his 1994 solo work live to the stage. He showed himself to be passionate, even smiled slightly at the audience and also put a lot of effort into his singing, as a fan recording of the performance makes clear. However, he himself did not provide any new information about his state of health on site.

What’s next for Queens of the Stone Age?

Even before the tour was postponed, the band said so on Instagram about her 51-year-old singer: “Josh had no choice but to prioritize his health and receive the necessary medical care for the rest of the year.” There was little communication after that – especially not from Josh Homme himself. Even that He didn’t use Mark Lanegan evening to focus on himself.
