Świątek wants the first Melbourne title
At the age of 23, Iga Swiatek already has a whopping five Grand Slams under her belt. The Pole won four times in Paris and once in New York. Meanwhile, Australia has not been the best place for the world number two, who only reached the semi-finals once in 2022. After the second half of 2024 was mixed for Swiatek and she was replaced at the top of the ranking by Aryna Sabalenka, the Warsaw native recently showed her best tennis again. In the first three rounds she didn’t give up a set and only ten games.

Will Lys continue her lucky loser fairy tale?
Eva Lys’ participation in the round of 16 is already the story of the tournament. The 23-year-old actually failed in the qualifying, but then moved into the main field at very short notice as a lucky loser and then went on an incredible run. Having only previously won a main round match at a major at the US Open 2023, Lys stormed into the round of 16 in Melbourne with successes against Kimberly Birrell, Varvara Gracheva and Jaqueline Cristian and thus earned the duel with number two World.
