A sudden change of leadership at the VVD in the Asser municipal council. Sandra Alberts (28) will be the new group leader. She succeeds Michiel Hasslacher (31), who has led the faction since the municipal elections in 2022.
After the elections, newcomer Hasslacher quickly became leader of the Liberals in the council, where they have 3 seats. Former VVD leader Martin Rasker joined the mayor and aldermen as an alderman.
The fact that Hasslacher is handing over the baton again after less than three years is due to the birth of his second child last summer. “I now want to spend more time and attention on my family for a few years. With a full-time job, council membership and a young family, the week is quickly filled.”
Hasslacher will remain a councilor for the VVD in the coming years. He says he has confidence in handing over the baton “Because there is a fresh, energetic club that is at the heart of society with company visits, drinks and plenty of initiatives in the municipal council.”
His successor Sandra Alberts calls it ‘an honor’ that she can take over the responsibility. The VVD faction has ‘great understanding’ for Hasslacher’s choice, and calls his decision to hand over the baton ‘a courageous decision’.
